Eagan Resident David Loehr Joins HGA's Minneapolis Office

HGA Architects and Engineers (HGA) has hired David A. Loehr, AIA, as associate vice president and designated principal in the Minneapolis office. He will focus on client relations, new business development and team leadership in HGA’s Public|Corporate Practice Group.

“David has a strong background leading integrated teams to develop architecture that promotes clients’ business objectives while achieving high design standards,” said Rebecca Greco, AIA, vice president and principal of HGA’s national Public|Corporate Practice Group. “He is a proactive leader who strategizes creative solutions to clients’ unique business challenges. David will prove an asset as HGA continues to strengthen its national design profile.”

Loehr’s experience includes design, master planning and urban planning for public, corporate, higher education and hospitality clients nationally and globally. Among his Twin Cities projects are the Science Museum of Minnesota in St. Paul, Target Plaza in Minneapolis, and Coffman Memorial Union at the University of Minnesota.

“I work as an advisor to clients and steward of their resources,” Loehr said. “By dovetailing my experiences with HGA’s expertise and organizational strengths, I collaboratively plan solutions that help position our clients as industry leaders.”

Before joining HGA, Loehr was founding partner of Studio 2030, a full-service architecture, interior design and planning practice in Minneapolis since 2007. His projects “merged the art and science of architecture with the values of social and environmental responsibility,” he said.

Prior to Studio 2030, he held leadership positions at several Twin Cities architecture firms, including Walsh Bishop Associates from 2003 to 2007, and Ellerbe Becket (now AECOM) from 1989 to 2002.

Throughout his work, Loehr promotes integration of sustainable design. He has developed millions of square feet of LEED®-certified projects, as well as Net Zero Energy and carbon neutral projects. His own Minnesota house integrates geothermal heating and passive-solar strategies.

“Sustainable design is not about doing more with less; it’s about rethinking our resource-intensive activities to embrace a new approach that manages and replenishes renewable resources and leads to a more vibrant future,” Loehr said.

Loehr has a Master of Architecture, Master of Urban Planning and Bachelor of Science in Architectural Studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He is a registered architect, certified planner, and LEED Accredited Professional.

Loehr is a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), American Institute of Certified Planners, American Planning Association, and National Council of Architectural Registration Boards.
