No matter where you are in your financial stage of life—just starting out, building up or saving to make it last—Dakota County Library is ready to help you with the Know Your Money program series beginning in November and running through April 2013.
From June to October, the series focused on helping kids and teens learn about money. Now the series shifts to programs designed for adults with topics including understanding credit, budgeting, investing basics, stretching food dollars, long-term savings, avoiding frauds and scams, health care rules, and more.
Finance guru, radio personality and author Chris Farrell will discuss the latest trends in finance, keeping a healthy budget and smart money management on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 7–8 p.m., Burnhaven Library, 1101 W. County Road 42, Burnsville. Farrell is the author of “The New Frugality: How to Consume Less, Save More, and Live Better,” as well as economics editor for American Public Media’s “Marketplace Money” radio program.

In April 2013, a Know Your Money resource fair will feature keynote speaker Gail Marks Jarvis, award-winning personal finance columnist for the Chicago Tribune.
This series is available due to a grant from the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Investor Education Foundation as part of the American Library Association’s (ALA) Smart investing@your library® initiative. In April, a total of $1.2 million in grants were awarded to 16 recipients nationwide. Dakota County Library was the only library in Minnesota to receive a grant this year.
