Russian Art on Display at Northern Service Center

Russian art and culture will be on display through January 2013 thanks to a new community art exhibit currently on display at the Dakota County Northern Service Center located at 1 Mendota Road W., West St. Paul.

The Dakota County Board of Commissioners and the Public Art Citizens Advisory group continues its tradition of exploring art and cultural traditions of Dakota County residents with this exhibit.

"The Art of Russia" is the 11th exhibit to be displayed and features architecture, icons, photography, paintings, postage stamps, porcelain, textiles and sculpture.

From imperial Russia to the end of the Cold War, the art presented spans hundreds of years of artistic tradition in a country poorly understood by Americans.  

Presented in a combination of back-lit photographs, posters, and digital formats, the exhibit provides a sampler of different styles and themes. Parts of this exhibit are courtesy of the Museum of Russian Art, located in Minneapolis.

The presentation was arranged and installed by the Dakota County Historical Society. The Russian exhibit is one of the ways the Dakota County Public Art Citizen Advisory Committee is working to make local art more accessible to residents.
