UPDATED: Severe Weather Alert for the Dakota County Area Has Expired

The special weather statement issued last night by the National Weather Service regarding a line of severe thunderstorms has expired.

Although forecasters say the threat for severe weather is currently low, thunderstorms are likely across much of the area on Saturday evening and Sunday morning.

A line of severe thunderstorms rolling through the metro area may bring half-dollar-sized hail and wind speeds in excess of 60 mph, according to the National Weather Service.

The service has issued a special weather statement through 10:30 p.m. on Thursday evening. Heavy downpours are expected with the storm, as is frequent cloud-to-ground lightning. Locations in the path of the storm include Dakota County.

The National Weather Service also issued a flood advisory at 9:32 p.m. for western Dakota County. Excessive runoff from the storm could cause minor flooding of small creeks, underpasses, highways and other low-lying areas.
