Inver Grove Royalty Retains 'Brain Freeze' Title at Eagan Funfest
Gina Soukey, of Inver Grove Heights, was victorious in the ice cream eating contest, taking the title from Kristi Schulz, also of IGH.
Inver Grove is hard to beat when it comes to the Eagan Funfest's Brain Freeze competition. The contest pits south metro royalty against one another in a battle to gulp down a plate of ice cream, hands free, in record time. The girl who finishes the fastest wins. This year, the defending champion was Kristi Schulz, a member of IGH's Junior Miss program. She lost the title, narrowly, to Gina Soukey, another girl from IGH.
"I'm excited," Soukey said after winning the contest and collecting the prize, a bedazzled ice cream scoop. "I've been competing in the Brain Freeze competition for six years."
Her secret: Almost no one in the Soukey clan is afflicted with ice-cream headaches.
"Only my dad gets it, no one else in my family does though," Soukey said. "I don't know why."
