With Super Bowl LVI officially in the books, the Minnesota Vikings can also officially hire Kevin O’Connell as their new head coach. And O’Connell officially heads to Minnesota as a Super Bowl champion.

Super Bowl LVI ended in thrilling fashion, with the LA Rams winning 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals. It was far from a pretty game for much of the night, with both QBs almost constantly being under fire from defensive line pressure all night long. Particularly for the Rams, this also meant a lack of production out of the running game with just 43 rushing yards on 23 carries.

LA also found themselves dealing with a multitude of injuries, including a knee injury to Odell Beckham Jr. in the first half that kept him out of the remainder of the game.

Things looked bleak at the start of the second half when on the first snap, Joe Burrow connected with Tee Higgins for a long TD, and then on the Rams first offensive snap, Matthew Stafford threw an interception.

Despite all these troubles, LA went into what would be their final possession of the game only down 20-16. They needed a touchdown to get Matthew Stafford and Co. their first Super Bowl title. On this drive, it seemed like LA really got back to their basics; essentially Matthew Stafford playing catch with superstar wide receiver, Cooper Kupp.

Going into this drive, Kupp had been rather quiet on the night, at least for his standards. He had just five touches for 61 yards and a touchdown. This drive though, he touched the ball four times for 39 yards, and eventually the game-sealing one yard touchdown catch that brought us to the final score of 23-20.

The Rams defense stepped up one last time to stop Joe Burrow from completing any late game heroics once again in this postseason, Stafford kneeled out the clock, and LA watched as the confetti fell. Now, Kevin O’Connell brings that championship mentality into his first head coaching gig with the Minnesota Vikings.
