Anyone with the first name Thor ought to spark some interest among Vikings fans, especially if he happens to be one of the leading authorities on draft prospects. Mr. Thor Nystrom of Rotoworld (I haven’t adjusted to the new name) recently released a three-round mock draft, and he has some interesting players heading toward the Vikings.

To the delight of many Vikings fans, Thor has Minnesota investing in their pass rush in the opening round. George Karlaftis gets sent in the Vikings’ direction with pick #12. Under Spielman, the Vikings never opted for an opening round edge rusher. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah is a wild card in this area. My hope is that the team opts for a different opening round strategy moving forward.

The second-round selection may raise a few eyebrows. Thor has the Vikings opting for a WR in his mock draft. More specifically, he has them choosing Christian Watson 46th overall. Take a peak at what The Draft Network has to say about Watson:

Finally, it’s an iOL prospect in round 3. Jamaree Salyer out of Georgia is the choice. TDN list him at 6’4, 325 pounds, and he’s their 56th-best player. Getting him at 77th thus suggests the Vikings may be making a wise move. As we all know, the OL needs some serious help, so adding someone who can solidify things at RG is reasonable enough.

With free agency right around the corner, Minnesota will have some changing needs. Nevertheless, Thor’s mock does a nice job of marrying value and need for the Vikings.
