This week a Twitter user went to Cameo to ask Antonio Brown if he thought Kirk Cousins and Mike Zimmer should remain with the Minnesota Vikings. Brown didn’t mention anything about Kirk, but he did give a ringing endorsement of Mike Zimmer. He said the Vikings should let Mike Zimmer figure it out and that he is the “best of the best.” I am not sure anyone wants Brown’s endorsement right now, but Coach Zimmer got it. Thanks to Thomas Sullivan (@yfz84) for providing the video. He mentioned several users that also helped chip in some of the money to pay for Brown’s Cameo fee in the ensuing tweets.
Should Zim Stay?
Mike Zimmer hasn’t put up much of a case the last two years to remain with the team. The team has shown little improvement. The defense has had several very expensive acquisitions that have not panned out. The offense statistically is rated as one of the best in the league, but that isn’t enough. Several of the losses can be boiled down to a few mental mistakes, coaching decisions and apparent lack of preparation. Sunday is most likely Zim’s last game as the Vikings’ Head Coach. Mike Zimmer said, “Regardless of anything that goes on after the season, I can stand proud.” He turned the team around from a dumpster fire to a solid team, but he has failed to turn it into a true title contender.

Should Kirk Stay?
Antonio didn’t say anything about Kirk, which could be considered a good thing. Kirk Cousins has been an enigma from the very beginning of his tenure. Kirk has the stats of an elite quarterback. QB Wins isn’t a real stat. However, the eye test for Kirk can lead you to a different conclusion than the stat lines. Watching Kirk doesn’t give the fans the confidence of watching quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, or Patrick Mahomes. Kirk just doesn’t have that pizzazz of Mahomes. He doesn’t have the confident/arrogant strut of Rodgers. He doesn’t have that commanding presence of Brady.
There is a strong likelihood if the Vikings replace Kirk Cousins via trade or draft, they will get a quarterback that isn’t as good. Quarterbacks are hard to find and there aren’t many that can definitively be said are better than Kirk. The question the GM and ownership must answer is, is it worth the risk to swing for the fences and potentially strike out? Are they willing to give up a competitive team for a playoff spot to try to get the competitive team for the Super Bowl? Unlike the Mike Zimmer decision, these questions likely won’t be answered for several months. It will be a long offseason, but impactful for the Vikings.
