School Board Approves 2013 Pay Increase for Transportation Employees

The district's 250 employees will get additional longevity pay and a salary bump.

The District 196 school board on Monday approved a two-year contract with members of Service Employees International Union, Local 284, which represents most of the district's 250 bus drivers, chaperones and crossing guards, according to a district news release.

The contract, which covers July 1, 2011 to June 30, 2013, stipulates that employees will get no pay increases on the salary schedule or for longevity pay this school year, the release says. 

Next school year, longevity pay will increase by 20 cents per hour, and each cell of the salary schedule also will increase by 20 cents in hourly pay, the release says.

Employee contribution to health insurance will remain the same for both years, while the district's contribution will increase in both years, the release says.

Regular meetings of the school board usually are held at 6 p.m. the second and fourth Mondays of each month at in Apple Valley
