Student-Led Food Drive Yields Over 2,000 Pounds in Donations

Pinewood Community School in Eagan continued its longtime tradition of holding a food drive for the Eagan Resource Center.

The student council at Pinewood Community School in Eagan led a food drive last week that students, teachers and parents participated in.

At the end of the week-long drive, students collected 2,559 pounds of food and personal care items for the Eagan Resource Center

The food drive is a school tradition that has lasted at least 13 years and perhaps longer, said Principal Cris Town.

The student council made posters and took part in the school's morning broadcasts to spread the word about the food drive, Town said. Students also held a contest to see who in each classroom could donate the most items.

First grade teacher Ann Caldecott-Bailey is the teacher-sponsor of the student council and she helped organize the event, as well. On Tuesday students helped load the donations and six parents drove the donations to the Eagan Resource Center.

Executive Director Lisa Horn will go to Pinewood on Friday and talk to students during the morning broadcast announcements.
