Car Theft Suspect Arrested Again—in Another Stolen Car

Police say they found Jibril Osman Abdi asleep in a stolen car parked in MInneapolis.

An Eden Prairie man charged in October with car theft has been arrested again in a car that authorities say was stolen.

Jibril Osman Abdi, 32, is charged with receiving stolen property, a felony with a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The victim in the latest case reported to police that his car was stolen sometime on Dec. 6, according to the criminal complaint, signed by Minneapolis Police Sgt. Patricia Annoni.

Just before 3:30 a.m. Dec. 7, Minneapolis police on patrol near Park Avenue South and 22nd Street spotted a running car parked by the side of the road, with a man asleep inside..

Officers checked the car’s license plate and determined that it had been reported stolen. They awakened Abdi, and noticed that a small knife had been stuck in the ignition, which allowed someone to start it without using a key, according to the complaint.

Abdi was arrested Oct. 1 in Minneapolis when police spotted a suspicious car parked at the end of a block. When they checked the car’s license plate, they discovered that it had been reported stolen on Sept. 29. Abdi was found inside the car, according to court records.  

Abdi is free on bond. An omnibus hearing in his latest case is scheduled Dec. 18 in Hennepin County District Court.
