Residents of Eden Prairie,

As we near the end of another uniquely challenging year, the usual wonder and excitement of this season might get lost in pandemic fatigue and the stresses of our world today. But even as our thoughts and prayers go out to those who have been touched by grief and despair these past few years, we are reminded that beyond the darkness there is much light, hope and promise.

Thanks to our residents who daily live out our 163-year legacy of making Eden Prairie a warm and welcoming place, ours is a community where systems work, people care about each other and our quality-of-life shines brightly. From our great schools and incredible nonprofits, to our amazing parks and recreational amenities, Eden Prairie has earned its reputation as an award-winning place to live.

Along with Council Members Mark Freiberg, PG Narayanan, Kathy Nelson and Lisa Toomey, I am reminded each day of what an honor it is to serve you at this time in our community’s history. From the Town Boards of the first 100 years to the last 60 years of City Councils, we stand on the shoulders of those who planned, funded and built the city we cherish today.

To find out more about some of the impressive things we’ve accomplished together this year, I encourage you to read City Manager Rick Getschow’s message that will appear in the winter issue of the “Life in the Prairie” newsletter. Between our Aaa bond rating, numerous innovative programs and services, and the hearts and minds of the staff and volunteers who work to keep us on the cutting-edge, Eden Prairie will continue to excel for decades to come.

As we approach this season of joy and peace, I wish all of you the love and warmth of family and home. And on behalf of the City Council, the happiest of New Years!
