In August, Kevin Torgerson, commander of the Minnesota Law Enforcement Memorial Association (LEMA), told Fridley Patch that line-of-duty deaths average about 1.5 per year.
On the day Decker died, the Eden Prairie Police Department wrote on Facebook and Twitter, "EPPD has the Cold Spring Police Department in our thoughts and prayers today." The department also added a black and blue bar to their logo on the Facebook page (shown with this story); the bar is the symbol for an officer killed in the line of duty.

Also on Tuesday, the Star Tribune reported that Stearns County prosecutors released Ryan Michael Larson, the suspect in Decker's death.
Larson told the St. Cloud Times that he was sleeping when Decker was killed.
“Basically, they have no evidence whatsoever that points in my direction,” Larson told the paper.
