From a Hennepin County news release sent today:
On July 17, the Sheriff’s Office is conducting a warrant sweep in partnership with more than a dozen law enforcement agencies.
Deputies and officers will clear warrants and arrest people who are wanted for a range of offenses – from felonies to misdemeanors. The sweep will focus on warrants related to domestic violence cases.
“People who are wanted on active warrants are more likely to reoffend,” said Sheriff Rich Stanek, “By pursuing warrants, we are sending the message that domestic violence will not be tolerated in Hennepin County and offenders will be held accountable.”
When a person wanted on an active warrant voluntarily surrenders – the wanted person will avoid being arrested by deputies in their home or workplace. A wanted person may turn themselves in to the Sheriff’s Office or their local police department.
To determine if you have an active warrant
· Visit the Sheriff’s Office Warrant Unit. It is located in Room 22 in Minneapolis City Hall, 350 South 5th Street, Minneapolis, MN.
· Bring a photo id.
To voluntarily surrender:
· Individuals may turn themselves in to local law enforcement or they may turn themselves in anytime at the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility, also known as the Hennepin County Jail. It’s located at 401 South 4th Avenue, Minneapolis, MN.
· Advise the deputy at the front lobby that you would like to turn yourself in. You will be placed under arrest and detained in the jail.
· Continued detention will depend on bail amount, release conditions, your ability to post bail, and the court schedule.
· Bring government issued identification with you, any necessary prescription medications, and cash, if you plan on bailing out.
