Two Eden Prairie Wrestlers Still Alive in State Tournament

Chase Monger and Matt Gribben will compete again Saturday. Ben Brancale lost to St. Michael-Albertville wrestler Tanner Mills.

Eden Prairie's three state tournament qualifiers combined for just one win Friday, but two of them are still alive in the state Class AAA individual wrestling tournament.

Eagles 145-pounder Chase Monger defeated Anthony Gamache of Osseo 3-1 in the first round, but lost to Jake Hanson of Rochester Mayo 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Monger will meet Alexandria's Tony Hubbard in wrestlebacks Saturday.

Ben Brancale lost a 9-3 decision to Tanner Mills of St. Michael-Albertville in the first round at 126 pounds, and was eliminated without getting to wrestle again when Mills lost in the quarterfinals.

Matt Gribben lost 4-1 to Anoka's Brandon Krone at 152 pounds. Krone went on to win his next match, earning Gribben a spot in the wrestlebacks against Garrett Beaman of Henry Sibley on Saturday morning.

The tournament concludes Saturday, with Gribben and Monger each needing to win their next two matches get into the top six and earn state medals.
