Burnt Baby Bottle Nipples, Malfunctioning Elevator Cause Fire Scares
The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Aug. 29-Sept. 4.

The responded to the following incidents during the week of Aug. 24-Sept. 4:
Aug. 29
- 11 responses by paramedic firefighters for Emergency Medical Service.
- A reported natural gas smell from a stove was investigated in the 6100 block of Xerxes Avenue. No gas was measured and no odor found. The gas company was en route to check the appliance.
- Firefighters investigated a reported smoke smell in the area of the 3900 block of West 50th Street. No smoke was found. A possible source may have been from the roofing operation on the top of .

- Nine EMS responses.
Aug. 31
- Six EMS incidents.
- A reported smoke detector sounding was investigated in the 5700 block of Blake Road. Firefighters investigated and found no smoke alarms activated and no problems.
Sept. 1

- Burnt baby bottle nipples on a stove caused smoke to fill an apartment in the 6400 block of Colony Way. There was no fire upon arrival by the fire department. A carbon monoxide detector had activated. Smoke was ventilated from the unit.
- Nine EMS responses.
- A vehicle accident was checked on France Avenue at Hwy. 62. There were no injuries.
- Two false fire alarms were investigated.
Sept. 2
- 10 EMS responses.
- A malfunctioning elevator created light smoke and set off a smoke alarm on the ninth floor of .
- A homeowner reported a natural gas odor in the 5100 block of Schaefer Road. A slight odor was noted upon firefighters arrival. No gas was measured with fire department monitors. The gas company was notified to follow up.
- Firefighters investigated a carbon monoxide/gas alarm activation on Woodland Circle. No natural gas was measured and no gas odor was found. The homeowner was advised to have gas company evaluate gas appliances.
Sept. 3
- 11 EMS calls.
- Paramedic firefighters responded to a vehicle versus bicycle crash in the 6700 block of York Avenue.
- A bicycle accident on Blake Road and Interlachen Boulevard was checked by paramedics.
- Two requests from the St. Louis Park Fire Department for mutual aid were both cancelled en route.
- Two false fire alarms were investigated.

- Nine EMS incidents.
- Two false fire alarms.
