City Council Accepting Applications for Advisory Boards, Commissions
Applications are due at Edina City Hall by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.

Edina residents interested in serving their community by directing city policy are encouraged to submit applications for spots on various advisory boards and commissions in the coming days.
The City Council is currently accepting applications for 2013 appointments to a number of its advisory boards and commissions. Most of the volunteer positions are three-year terms, though a few of the open seats are partial terms. Applications are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1, at Edina City Hall.
The advisory boards and commissions with vacancies include the following:

- Art Center Board (two openings)
- Community Health Committee (four openings)
- Construction Board of Appeals (four openings)
- Energy & Environment Commission (one opening)
- Heritage Preservation Board (four openings)
- Human Rights & Relations Commission (two openings)
- Park Board (one opening)
- Planning Commission (one opening)
- Transportation Commission (one opening)
Assistant City Manager Karen Kurt said the boards and commissions are a "great resource to staff and the City Council."
"If you're passionate about a topic, it's a great way to influence the direction that the City might take in a particular area," Kurt said. "It's also a fun way to learn a little bit more about how local government works."

Interested parties can receive an application or additional information on the City of Edina's website or by calling City Clerk Deb Mangen at 952-826-0408.
All candidates must be approved by the Edina City Council, with plans to interview applicants at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 7, 11 and 20. Final appointments will be made in March.
Applications for one-year student appointments to the various groups will be accepted in the spring, with the terms beginning at the start of the 2013-14 school year.
