Crews Respond to Leaking Gas Line on Kellogg Avenue

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Sept. 19-25.

The  responded to the following incidents during the week of Sept. 19-25:

Sept. 19

  • An engine fire in a vehicle was extinguished by firefighters in the parking lot of a business in the 4800 block of West 77th Street. 
  • Paramedic firefighters responded to 13 incidents requiring emergency medical service.
  • An ambulance and an engine crew were sent to a vehicle crash on Hwy. 62 near Wyman Avenue. There were no injuries.
  • A person was trapped in an elevator in an apartment building in the 7200 block of York Avenue. The elevator operated on its own, so no further action by firefighters was necessary.
  • Firefighters investigated a reported smell of natural gas outside a home in the 5700 block of West 66th Street. No natural gas levels were measured. Firefighters advised the gas company, who was en route.
  • Two false fire alarms were investigated.

Sept. 20

  • Seven EMS incidents.
  • Firefighters responded to the scene of a welfare check at the request of the Edina Police and were cancelled at the scene.
  • A natural gas odor was checked out at a home in the 4500 block of Casco Avenue. No gas was measured. The gas company had been called and were en route to follow up.
  • Two false fire alarms were reported.

Sept. 21

  • Nine EMS calls.
  • Paramedics assisted at a vehicle crash with injuries on West 69th Street at France Avenue.
  • A natural gas line was struck in the 5400 block of Kellogg Avenue. The gas line had been crimped off by the construction crew. Firefighters checked the air with gas monitors and found no levels of natural gas. The gas company was en route to repair. The site had been marked prior to digging, but the old line had been abandoned and was missed by the marking crew.

Sept. 22

  • 18 EMS responses.
  • Firefighters responded to the 5300 block of Virginia Avenue to check out an alarm. Investigation found that the washing machine belt had failed and a small amount of smoke had set off a smoke detector. 
  • Three false fire alarms were reported.

Sept. 23

  • 11 EMS incidents.
  • Eden Prairie Fire Department requested a mutual aid response to a possible structure fire, but cancelled Edina firefighters en route.
  • A request for mutual aid from the St. Louis Park Fire Department was cancelled en route.
  • One false fire alarm was investigated.

Sept. 24

  • Seven EMS calls.
  • Firefighters responded to the 6100 block of Chowen Avenue for a sparking oven. The element in the oven was shorting out, causing the arcing. There was no fire. Firefighters disconnected the power to the circuit and unplugged the appliance. The homeowner was advised to seek service.

Sept. 25

  • 14 EMS responses.
  • Firefighters investigated a carbon monoxide malfunction in the 4000 block of Lynn Avenue.
