Edina Dog Businesses Hosting Inaugural 'Howl-o-Ween Pawty'

A group of Edina businesses catering to dogs and their owners—known as EdinaDogs—is hosting a pet-friendly Halloween party this weekend.

The inaugural Howl-o-Ween Pawty will run from 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27, at the Ruff House Canine Social Club (6879 Washington Ave. S.). The event is free and open to the public, whether you have a dog or not.

The festivities will include costume contests for both dogs and families, food from local businesses and other contests and activities. Proceeds from the three-hour party benefit Homeward Bound Dog Rescue, which has served the Minnesota community for more than 20 years.

Sonja Tengdin, co-founder of EdinaDogs and owner of ScoopyPoo said the party has been designed to equally please dogs and families.

"The public is invited whether you have a dog or not," Tendgin said. "Even if you have a dog but it scares you to bring your dog out in public...you should still come and enjoy all the activities that are for humans exclusively."

The party has five themed areas, each hosted by one of the founding organizations behind EdinaDogs. There will be face painting for kids, nail painting for dogs and a chance at winning gift certificates and other prizes for adults.

Guests will get a free swag bag for attending, which includes five free tickets for contests and activities. Additional tickets are $1, with all proceeds going to Homeward Bound Rescue.

"It's a win-win for all," said Cheri Friedman, a volunteer with Homeward Bound. "Treats for dogs, prizes, activities and contests for kids and adults and a local dog rescue, Homeward Bound, reaps the benefits."

EdinaDogs is a group of six established dog businesses all located in Edina. It includes Bone Adventure, Pets Are Inn, Ruff House, Tangerine House of Design, ScoopyPoo and Your Dog's Best Friend.
