Edina Football Players, Coach Make All-Metro Team
Mark Handberg, Deon Dorvil, Marley Allison and Head Coach Reed Boltmann were all recognized for a tremendous 2012 season.

Even though it didn't end in a state title win, the 2012 season was a tremendous accomplishment for the Edina High School football team.
The Hornets had a strong conference showing, defeating powerhouses like Minnetonka, Eden Prairie and Wayzata en route to their first state tournament berth in several decades.
That hard work didn't go unnoticed, as a number of Edina players and even Head Coach Reed Boltmann made KARE 11's All-Metro Team.

Edina players Marley Allison, Mark Handberg and Deon Dorvil all made the cut at their respective positions, thanks to tremendous efforts during their senior season.
Allison led the list of All-Metro receivers, with KARE 11 particularly praising a touchdown catch he snagged against Wayzata late in the season.

"Allison made a spectacular 97-yard touchdown catch and run versus Wayzata this season," KARE 11 wrote. "He finished with 70 catches for 865 yards and seven touchdowns. He made the spectacular catch look easy."
Handberg—who finished the season with 1,654 passing yards and 12 touchdowns—was singled out as the best quarterback in the metro for "his vision and ability to get out of trouble."
"He scrambles well, but always knows where his receivers are," KARE 11 wrote. "He made defenses pay with his leadership all season long."
Defensive tackle Deon Dorvil was the lone Hornet defender to make the All-Metro Team, after making 53 tackles on the season. Nine of those tackles were for lost yardage.
"Deon usually required a double-team block up front which freed up linebackers to make tackles," KARE 11 said. "He certainly earned the respect of opposing players and coaches who raved about his motor and his ability to disrupt a play."
Finally, Head Coach Reed Boltmann was named the metro's Coach of the Year for the 2012 season. Boltmann coached the Hornets to a No. 1 ranked finish in Class 6A, defeating Wayzata and Eden Prairie in away games back-to-back along the way.
"The Hornets were upset in the state quarterfinals, but it didn't diminish the fact it was Edina's first trip to state in football in 30 years," KARE 11 wrote.
