Edina High School Ranks Among Best in Minnesota, Twice: 2012 in Review
With the year coming to a close, Edina Patch looks back on some of the biggest stories of 2012.

Edina Patch covered a lot of different stories, topics and events throughout 2012. That said, there were a few that stood out as the most interesting, important, touching or possibly infamous to our readers.
And as we near the end of 2012, we're looking back at those articles. The following is one of those stories.

First, it was U.S. News & World Report. Then Newsweek got in on the action.
But no matter which one you referenced, both ranked Edina High School as one of the best schools in the entire state of Minnesota.

Edina High School ranked 154th in the nation as part of Newsweek's annual Best High Schools list, which saw 1,000 schools ranked in 2012. EHS was one of only two Minnesota schools to break the top 200—Minnetonka finished 190th.
A total of 20 Minnesota high schools made the 2012 list, including neighboring districts St. Louis Park Senior (290), Wayzata (355), Eden Prairie (405) and Southwest (448).
As for U.S. News and World Report's rankings, Edina rated as the 234th best in the country.
Principal Bruce Locklear said Edina High School staff were excited "to be recognized for this honor."
"It truly recognizes the hard work and dedication of our staff and students," Locklear said. "Additionally, it represents the guidance and support of our school board."
Neighboring school district St. Louis Park High School ranked fourth on the list, while Minnetonka High School placed seventh, Hopkins High School finished 14th and Eden Prairie High School was named 20th.
