Edina Cruises to Zero Week Victory over Holy Angels

Junior Colin Ritter scored four touchdowns in the Hornets' 28-14 win over the Stars.

The Edina Hornets kicked off their 2012-13 season with a bang, cruising to a 28-14 Zero Week victory over Holy Angels on Friday, Aug. 24.

Junior running back Colin Ritter helped secure the win, scoring all four of the team's touchdowns against the Stars. Ritter had only six attempts for 14 yards during the game, but made a significant contribution as four of those carries were 1-yard touchdown runs.

Ritter might have been responsible for all of Edina's touchdowns, but junior running back Kevin Placide and senior wide receiver Ray Washington helped move the ball down the field with 89 and 34 rushing yards, respectively.

Senior quarterback Mark Handberg was 10 for 14, throwing for a total of 186 yards against the Stars. Wide receiver Marley Allison finished the game with 108 yards through the air off of six receptions.

It was the first-ever meeting between Edina—a Class 6A team—and Holy Angels—a Class 4A team. The Hornets struggled a bit early on, with the score tied 7-7 in the second quarter. But Edina kept pushing, eventually securing the win on the back of Ritter's scoreboard contributions.
