Edina Man Accused of Hitting State Patrol Cruiser While Drunk

Maurice Blevins is charged with driving while intoxicated and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

A 39-year-old Edina man is accused of crashing into a pair of State Patrol cruisers while intoxicated last weekend.

Maurice Blevins was reportedly driving along I-494 near the I-35W ramp at 10:22 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, when he crashed into a pair of State Patrol squad cars on the scene of a rollover crash. According to court documents, Blevins has been charged with gross misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

He also faces a charge of driving with a revoked license, which was revoked in 1994.

Several passengers, including children, were inside Blevins' vehicle at the time of the accident.

The crash injured a Minnesota State Trooper who was inside of the squad car at the time, but his injuries were not serious in nature. Nobody in Blevins' vehicle was seriously injured during the incident.

Troopers reported Blevins had bloodshot and watery eyes, smelled of alcohol and had slurred speech at the time of the crash. Blood testing at the time showed his blood alcohol content at 0.166, more than twice the legal limit.

Blevins was released from Hennepin County Jail Monday after posting $12,000 bail. He's scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 11.
