Edina Native Mike Carroll Nabs 6th Coach-of-the-Year Award

Edina native Mike Carroll was honored for his coaching skills for the sixth time recently, after being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's hockey Coach-of-the-Year for the 2012-13 season.

Carroll is wrapping up his 14th season as head coach of the women's hockey team at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, MN. 

This season was an incredible feat for Carroll and the Gusties, who completed a perfect 18-0 run to earn the MIAC title, with an unbeaten regular season record of 24-0-1. Carroll also recorded his 300th collegiate coaching victory this season, with a career record of 311-68-23.

Carroll, who lives in Mankato with his wife, Terri, played hockey and baseball at Mankato State University. After graduating in 1982, Carroll played professional baseball with the Montreal Expos for two years. He also coaches the Gustavus baseball team.

Prior to his lengthy tenure at Gustavus, Carroll was head coach of boys hockey at Mankato West High School from 1991-99. He also coached men's hockey at Fergus Falls Community College from 1986-87 and spent a season as assistant men's coach for the University of St. Thomas in 1983. 

He has coached the Gusties to a total of 11 regular season MIAC titles, along the way mentoring five different MIAC Player-of-the-Year winners—Sarah Garrison, Andrea Peterson, Stefanie Ubl, Allie Schwab and, most recently, Lindsey Helm.
