Edina Police Donate Blood, Freeze in Name of Charity
Members of the Edina Police Department received recognition for their efforts in both the Battle of the Badges and the Polar Plunge.
The Edina Police Department was recognized for its involvment in two separate charity events, including raising $3,776 for Special Olympics Minnesota through the Eden Prairie Plunge.
The department's team—dubbed the Spider Pigs—came in first for law enforcement fundraising and third in overall team fundraising for the Eden Prairie iteration of the Polar Bear Plunge, held Saturday, March 12.
Edina police were also honored for their effort as part of the Battle of the Badges, a friendly competition sponsored by Memorial Blood Centers to generate blood donations from across the metro. Police and fire departments from Eden Prairie, Edina and Minneapolis all took part in the blood drive, which concluded on Jan. 31, 2011. The Edina Police received the Rookie Award as well as a Participation Award for their donations.
