Edina School Board Candidates Talk Achievement Gaps, Funding, Technology in Forum

The League of Women Voters Edina held a forum last week for the nine candidates running for the city's school board.

All nine candidates for the Edina School Board spoke last week during a forum organized by the League of Women Voters.

In the forum, which lasted a little more than an hour, candidates answered questions about the achievement gap, funding, technology the issues that motivated them to run for school board and the philosophical underpinnings of their educational beliefs. 

In just over a month, Edina voters will be able to weigh in on four open seats on the school board.

The election will be held Nov. 5. All school board seats are at-large, meaning the entire school district will be able to vote for each seat.

Nine people—seven newcomers and two current board members—are vying for the seats.

All nine candidates—Regina Neville, Randy Meyer, David Goldstein, Danielle Busby, Mark Sparano, Lisa O’Brien, Gayle Castro, Vivien Talghader and Leonel Dorvil— were present at the forum.
