Edina Senior Nominated to West Point by Sen. Franken

Edina High School senior Hayden Anderson could be headed to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, after receiving a nomination for admission from U.S. Senator Al Franken.

The son of Eric and Debra Anderson, Hayden would be part of the U.S. Military Academy's class of 2017 if he is chosen for an appointment. He would enter the Academy this fall.

"I am very pleased to nominate Hayden Anderson to the U.S. Military Academy," Sen. Franken said, in a release. "Each year, I nominate several talented young Minnesotans to our nation’s military academies because of their strong character, academic and athletic achievements, and demonstrated leadership ability. I have no doubt that Hayden has the ability to excel at U.S. Military Academy and become a successful future leader in our nation’s military."

Anderson is active in both varsity hockey and choir at EHS, in addition to being a representative on the Edina Chemical Health Partners Committee. He has also mentored third and fourth graders within the district and volunteers at the Hospitality House Youth Development in North Minneapolis.

Franken routinely nominates qualified Minnesotans to the nation's four service academies, including the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The individual service academies make the final admission decisions and begin notifying nominees of their status in February.
