Engine Crew Helps Remove Juveniles from Middle School Roof

The Edina Fire Department's weekly activity report for Aug. 15-21.

The  responded to the following incidents during the week of Aug. 15-21:

Aug. 15

  • The Eden Prairie Fire Department requested mutual aid assistance for a structure fire. Edina crews were asked to respond to their Station One to stand by. 
  • Paramedic firefighters assisted at eight Emergency Medical Service incidents.
  • Crews responded to a vehicle crash on Hwy. 62 and Valley View Road and found there were no injuries.
  • Edina Police requested an engine crew to respond routine to the 4700 block of Southview Lane to provide a ladder to the roof. Two juveniles were assisted off the roof of the school.

  • 12 EMS responses.
  • Five false fire alarms were investigated.

Aug. 17

  • Smoke detectors alerted a homeowner to an unattended pot that had caught fire on the stove. The homeowner extinguished the fire with water. 9-1-1 was called to have the fire department confirm that there was no extension. Flames from the fire melted part of the microwave above the stove and soot stained the stove, microwave and cabinet above. 
  • 14 EMS incidents.
  • One false fire alarm.

Aug. 18

  • Firefighters extinguished an engine fire in a vehicle on Hwy. 169 and West 7th Street.
  • Six EMS incidents.
  • A vehicle crash without injuries was checked out on Hwy. 100 near Benton Avenue.

Aug. 19

  • 12 EMS responses.
  • One false fire alarm.

Aug. 20

  • 10 EMS incidents.
  • One false fire alarm.

Aug. 21

  • Firefighters responded to a report of an oven fire in the 5800 block of Johnson Drive. Fire was out upon arrival. Firefighters investigated and found there was no damage.
  • Eight EMS responses.
  • A smoke smell was reported in the area of the 5000 block of Hankerson Avenue. Firefighters checked and determined the slight smoke odor was from a recreational fire or fireplace and no smoke was found.
  • One false fire alarm.
