LETTER: Hovland Understands 'Edina is Not an Island'

Allison Barmann will be voting Jim Hovland for Mayor of Edina on Nov. 6.

I am an eight-year resident of Edina with three small children. We had a delightful Halloween last week, wandering from house to house and seeing all of our neighbors who have become dear friends. Such a lovely evening reminded me, there is simply nowhere else I would want to live.

Yet, on Tuesday, voters have a decision to make about the future of our town. I firmly believe Mayor Hovland is the right leader to ensure Edina remains prosperous, with an unbeatable quality of life. In fact, under Mayor Hovland’s leadership, 98% of city residents rate our city as good or excellent. He has played a key role in securing a AAA financial rating for the city. He has listened to his constituents and has engaged more residents than ever through participating on City Boards and commissions, supporting hiring decisions and mapping future development districts.

Mayor Hovland also understands that Edina is not an island. For our town to thrive, our region must thrive. I have had the distinct pleasure of working with Mayor Hovland on regional economic issues for the past five years. He is an ardent advocate for Edina, while also thinking strategically for the region.
