LETTER: Linda Masica Would Be 'Breath of Fresh Air' as Mayor

Ann Compton has concerns the mayoral office has 'become stale with cronyism' in recent times.

Edina needs a fresh face at the helm of its city government, and Linda Masica is my choice for mayor. As a 40-year resident of Edina, Linda understands the pride Edina residents feel for their community and is committed to maintaining its reputation for excellence. While serving on the city council, Linda Masica was known as the go-to council member who listened to residents and spoke with the voice of reason. When our neighborhood went through road construction, Linda actually walked the streets of our neighborhood so she could know first hand our concerns about the project.

Mayor Jim Hovland has had his hand in city government for 16 years, eight as a council member and eight as mayor, and that is long enough. It is my belief he has become irrelevant and out of touch with the needs of our community. Under his reign, water rates have tripled, homeowners have been forced to pay 100% of the tab for huge assessments for road repairs that in other communities are paid for through property taxes, 17 million dollars was spent on a new public works building, and our quiet suburban community is becoming a littered with high rises.

I am voting for Linda Masica because her character and integrity are beyond reproach, and she will bring a breath of fresh air to a mayoral office that has become stale with cronyism. Masica will be responsive to the concerns of all Edina residents.
