'Sober Corps' Golf Tournament Features 12 Holes, Mulligans

The Sept. 19 tournament benefits Sober Corps, a non-profit that supports recovering chemical addicts.

When Sober Corps holds a golf tournament fundraiser at the Braemar Golf Course, the Twin Cities non-profit will be making a few tweaks to the rules, emphasizing its mission supporting chemical addiction recovery programs.

During the Sept. 19 tournament, each foursome will play 12 holes, echoing the 12 steps to recovery, with golfers allowed to replay three of the nine holes "because everyone deserves a second chance."

“This is where the idea of a second chance comes into play,” said Fred Myers, president of Sober Corps, in a statement. “With the right tools and assistance, anyone has the potential to make a change. We provide support to our clients at a critical junction in their recovery process to help them acquire needed skills and ensure that they retain hope and drive during the challenging journey.”

Sober Corps, founded in 2007, helps recovering addicts with housing, employment, spiritual and other needs.

The tournament starts at 2 p.m. Information about registration is available on the Sober Corps website.
