U.S. Senate, Congressional Races Headline Primary Ballots
Edina voters will have to wait until November to weigh in on municipal, Minnesota Senate contests.

As far as elections go, there isn't a lot of local drama on the ballot in Tuesday's Primary election. Most of the news will come from various contested races for national office, such as the U.S. Senate race involving incumbent Democrat Amy Klobuchar and three DFL challengers.
And that's really the point of the state's primary election. It's a "party ballot," meaning voters are selecting their preferred choice of their party to move forward to the Nov. 6 General Election ballot.
It also means in races where there's only one Democrat or Republican running, those races will not appear on the primary ballot.

While this year's redistricting did split Edina between two congressional districts, the majority of Edina residents still reside in the 3rd District. 3rd District residents will have a choice between Republicans Erik Paulsen and John Howard III, while Brian Barnes will appear on ballots unopposed for the DFL spot in the race.
As for residents of northeast Edina who now find themselves in the 5th Congressional District, they'll have a choice between three DFL candidates for the seat currently held by Keith Ellison. Ellison is running against both Gary Boisclair and Gregg Iverson in the primary, while Republican Chris Fields is unopposed.
The three local legislative seats—Senate District 49, House District 49A and House District 49B—will not have primaries, as only two candidates have filed for each race. In SD49, former State Rep. Keith Downey (R) will take on DFL newcomer Melisa Franzen in November. House District 49A will pit Republican Bill Glahn against DFL nominee Ron Erhardt, while 49B will see Paul Rosenthal (DFL) compete against Terry Jacobson (R).
Aside from the aforementioned Congressional contests, Edina residents will also vote on the following primary races:
