What's Open, Closed for Columbus Day 2013 in Edina

Columbus Day falls on Monday, Oct. 14, this year. Here's a guide to what will be open and closed on the holiday.

Columbus Day, a nationally recognized federal holiday, falls on Monday, Oct. 14 this year. While it is an opportunity for some to sleep in on a Monday, the holiday itself is also interesting, and a great time to celebrate and shop.

Columbus Day remembers Italian explorer Christopher Columbus’ long journey across the Atlantic Ocean to the “New World." The voyage was victorious when land was first spotted on Oct. 12, 1492.

Edina City Hall will be open all day. The building's regular hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Edina's Municipal Liquor Stores will also be open for business. The stores will be open 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Post offices are closed. That includes both the branch at West 74th Street and the 50th & France location.

Edina's supermarkets are open normal hours.

Southdale Center and The Galleria are also open for holiday shoppers.

Metro Transit buses and suburban bus lines are following regular weekday schedules. Riders can get route information on the bus lines' respective websites.

Edina's two Hennepin County Library branches are open throughout the day. The Edina Community Library will be open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., while the Southdale Library will be open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Edina Public Schools will be in session throughout the day.
