• With no administrator, council considers options (fairmontsentinel.com) — With Fairmont currently lacking a city administrator or interim, the City Council has temporarily shifted more authority to department heads while requiring regular updates on their work. Council members debated how much say they should have in hiring and firing during this gap, ultimately confirming that department leaders retain that power for budgeted positions until a new administrator is appointed.
   

• Fairmont shaves some off budget, OKs at 6.9 % levy increase (fairmontsentinel.com) — Fairmont’s 2026 city levy is now set to rise 6.9 percent after the council trimmed $100,000 from capital projects, while still funding major street, equipment, park, airport and utility needs. Electric and water rates will stay flat next year, but wastewater rates will increase about 7 percent, and council members sparred over how aggressively to cut or delay vehicle and building spending.
