Board Hears Presentation on Regional Economic Development

Samantha Markman, Anoka County’s economic development director, provided the board with a presentation about the work of the Anoka County Regional Economic Development Partnership (ACRED), between Anoka County and its 21 partnering communities. Markman touched on the successes of ACRED during 2021 and what the partnership hopes to accomplish moving forward.

Labor Agreement Approved with Local 49

The board approved a 3-year labor agreement with Local 49, which represents Anoka County’s Highway/Parks Maintenance unit. For more information on this item, click HERE.

Plan for Columbia Heights TIF District Presented to Board

Aaron Chirpich, Columbia Heights community development director, presented the board with information about the city’s plan to establish a tax increment financing (TIF) district at 42nd Avenue and Jackson Street. No board action was required regarding the TIF district. As part of a revitalization plan, tax increments collected from the TIF district will enable the city’s economic development authority to facilitate the construction of a 62-unit residential apartment building.

Board Approves Contract for Community Health Messenger Work

The board approved a contract with Grace Restoration International for trusted messenger work around COVID-19 and other health issues from March 1 to Dec. 31, 2022. During the pandemic, Anoka County Public Health partnered with GRI to assist in reaching socially vulnerable populations for the purpose of COVID-19 testing and vaccines. This contract is for Anoka County to continue partnering with GRI to build upon connections with key community leaders that will serve as trusted messengers to their communities regarding COVID-19 and other health issues beyond pandemic response. Enterprise Communications System Contract Renewed

The board approved an amendment to a contract which results in the renewal of an agreement with MARCO Technologies for the company to continue providing an enterprise-wide unified communications system for Anoka County. A unified communications system consists of hardware, software, and services that provide multiple communications methods, including phone, video, messaging, voicemail and content sharing.
