NEW HOPE, MN — An 18-year-old Plymouth woman was sentenced to about six years in prison in the nonfatal stabbing of her alleged rapist.

In December, Kristy Marie Hanson pleaded guilty to first-degree assault. The first-degree murder charge against her was dismissed. Boyfriend Chong Vang, 20, is set to go on jury trial for a first-degree murder charge in April.

If convicted, Vang would face an automatic sentence of life in prison under state law.

The man was transported to the hospital where he was treated for injuries including 10 lacerations, two punctured lungs, and an injury to the left external carotid artery.

Chong Vang was found at the scene with a knife, according to the criminal complaint. Witnesses reported that Vang "kept saying" that the stabbing victim was a rapist, according to authorities.

During the investigation, officers obtained surveillance video from inside and outside of Hy-Vee.

Footage showed the stabbing victim leave Hy-Vee and start walking towards Civic Center Park.

Vang is then seen following him into the park, police said. The two make small talk, eventually shake hands, and hug, before Vang begins stabbing the man, according to the criminal complaint.

In a police interview, Hanson admitted to officers that she has been dating Vang for 10 months. During the relationship, she told Vang that she had been sexually assaulted by at least five men, according to the criminal complaint.

The two then plotted to kill the men, authorities said.
