• Army Corps Builds New Island (militaryspot.com) — A new man-made island is being built just upstream of Lock and Dam 2 in Hastings to shield the earthen embankment from erosion and protect river habitat. Using dredged Mississippi River sand, the Army Corps aims to strengthen navigation reliability, add nearly 16 acres of vegetation, and create overwintering fish habitat, with completion targeted by 2027.
