Filing Now Open for 2013 Inver Grove School District Election

Inver Grove Heights voters will select three people to the five-person school board to represent them in District 199. They will also vote on a $31 million bond referendum on Nov. 5.

Residents in Inver Grove Heights School District No. 199 may now file to campaign for one of three seats open on the Board of Education in the upcoming 2013 elections.
Board chair Cindy Nordstrom and members Paul Mandell and Lynette Stensgard are both nearing the end of their four-year terms. Nordstrom was elected to the board in 2010 and is finishing her first stint. Mandell and Stensgard were both ushered in via the 2005 election and were re-elected.
Filing information may be found at the Inver Grove Heights School District offices, located at 2990 80th St. E. in Inver Grove Heights.

Referendum also on ballot
Voters will also decide on a bond referendum question on the ballot in the Nov. 5 regular election. The bond would provide schools with open learning spaces, additional security improvements and updated infrastructure.
According to the district, the IGH's facilities committee and local architects spent about a year evaluating the state of district buildings and grounds, and the team identified four key components that contribute to a high-quality learning experience:

  • academics
  • athletics
  • arts
  • safety

The referendum request is for a $31 million dollar bond to be paid back over 20 years. The average homeowner in Inver Grove Heights ($184,000) would pay $7.58/month through their property taxes, according to district estimates.
