PHOTOS: Spartans Secure Overtime Win Versus Warrior Women
Simley Head coach Cassie Husemann stressed 'defense first' heading into overtime but junior Rachel Rud took the opportunity to secure the win over Henry Sibley Thursday night.
The girls soccer team recorded its first win in four matches Thursday night over the visiting Henry Sibley Warriors.
The Spartans locked up the match 4-3 in overtime on a game-winning goal from junior forward Rachel Rud.
"I kept urging the girls not to get down on themselves," head coach Cassie Husemann told Patch. "Going in to the overtime, we stressed defense first. Obviously I wanted them to push the attack when it's there but I told the girls that we're OK with a tie."

Both teams began the match in aggressive fashion, notching four goals in the first 20 minutes of play—an offensive precedent set during the 2011 season.
"We've got a little bit of a history with this team," Husemann said. "Last year we tied them 6-6."

In only her second time playing the forward position this season, junior Mikayla Schultz scored the first and third goals for the Spartans.
Schultz is rostered as a defenseman.
With Thursday night's win, the Spartans improved their record to 1-2-1 in the Classic Suburban conference.
