Simley Seniors Awarded Flint Hills Scholarships

seniors Sara Keifat and Katherine Kruse were among 26 local students awarded Discovery Scholarships from Flint Hills Resources on June 1.

Keifat and Kruse will be honored at an awards banquet at the Science Museum of Minnesota on June 6 at 5:30 p.m. Rick Kupchella, president of BringMeTheNews, is scheduled to give the keynote speech.

"At Flint Hills Resources—where we employ hundreds of scientists and engineers—we recognize the great importance of these professions," said Scott Lindemann, vice president and manufacturing manager for Flint Hills Resources. "We are proud to support these talented young people from our local communities as they pursue futures in these fields."

Twenty-six students from 13 schools in Dakota and Washington counties each received a $2,500 scholarship for the 2012-2013 school year.

Scholarship recipients were chosen based on demonstrated leadership and entrepreneurial skills, and each had a cumulative GPA of 3.6 or higher. 

Since 1991 Flint Hills has awarded more than $565,000 in scholarships to 426 college-bound students pursuing careers in math and science.
