Excelsior Woman Faces Felonies After Assaulting Girlfriend with Bottle

An woman has been charged with hitting her girlfriend over the head with a liquor bottle and threatening to murder her.

Toni Rose Zipf, 22, is charged with two felonies: second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a $14,000 fine, and making terroristic threats, which has a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine. The assault charge carries a mandatory minimum sentence of a year and a day behind bars.

According to the criminal complaint, signed by South Lake Minnetonka Police Investigator Stephen Neururer, police were called to an Excelsior home on July 23 and spoke to a man who said the victim came to his apartment saying Zipf had assaulted her.

The woman—who identified Zipf as her “boyfriend”—told police that she and Zipf had been drinking and began arguing. She said Zipf repeatedly threatened to murder her and then commit suicide.

When Zipf approached the victim in a threatening manner, the victim grabbed a baseball bat to defend herself, and the two women began to struggle over the bat, according to the complaint. Zipf gained control of the bat and hit the victim on the foot, then picked up a Jagermeister bottle and hit her over the head, the complaint charges.

The victim grabbed the bat and fled to the neighbor’s house. She told police she was concerned that Zipf would kill herself, because she had made similar threats in the past.

Police went to the home that the victim and Zipf shared in the 200 block of 1st Street and announced their presence at the front door, but received no response. Officers found blood on the front door handle and more blood  on the living room and kitchen floors and furniture before they found a bleeding Zipf lying on a bed.

Zipf is free on a $40,000 bond. An omnibus hearing in her case is scheduled Aug. 13 in Hennepin County District Court.
