Who is spray painting cars and buildings around Wayzata?

Local police were not amused by a vandal's message to mom over the weekend.

Wayzata Police Chief Mike Risvold said officers received two separate reports Sunday morning of vandalism, both on Lake Street. One message sprayed on a building near the intersection of Lake Street and Walker Avenue read "I Love You Mom."

Reports of vandalism in Wayzata have ticked up along with spring temperatures.

In the last week minor damage was reported to a car left in a parking lot on Rice Street, and several graffiti sprayings were discovered at the Carisch parking ramp.

Late last month another vehicle, this one located in a parking garage on Indian Mound, was spray painted as well.

Other noteworthy police activity:

Police say they have identified an individual suspected of stealing a donation can for Children's Hospital from a gas station in Long Lake. The canister and its approximate $80 contents were reported missing on April 26.

A stolen vehicle was recovered before its owner ever even had a chance to report it missing. The vehicle of unknown make and model was stolen from an address along Watertown Road in Long Lake on April 26. Police at Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport recovered it. A suspect has been arrested.

Wayzata officers arrested a St. Cloud man on suspicion of driving while intoxicated over the weekend. Man Van Ngyen was stopped just after 2 a.m. Sunday in Plymouth. The arrest was part of a statewide "Nite Cap" patrol initiative.

A Minnetonka man faces DUI charges following a traffic stop on Saturday, May 7. The arrest took place just before 11 p.m. near Hwy. 394 and Plymouth Road. His name has not been released.

A Plymouth woman, identified by police as 40-year-old Laura Purcell, was arrested and charged with DWI after being pulled over on April 29. The traffic stop occurred at Bushaway Road and Eastman Lane.

A residential burglary was reported last Wednesday. An unknown amount of valuables were taken from a home on Locust Hills Drive, where police found evidence of forced entry. No other information is available.
