Meet A Future Leader In Lake Minnetonka: Jos Buffington
Patch and T-Mobile have partnered to highlight young people achieving great things in our community.

The future of Lake Minnetonka is looking bright, thanks to the incredible young people working to strengthen our community. In partnership with T-Mobile, Patch is proud to spotlight future leaders like Jos Buffington, who are making a positive impact in and around Lake Minnetonka.
Jos was recognized in Lake Minnetonka Magazine’s 2024 Senior Spotlight series for their exceptional academic achievements, leadership and dedication to making a positive impact. Jos’s love for learning spans a wide range of subjects, excelling in advanced courses and contributing to projects such as studying Minnesota climate records with Minnetonka Research. As captain of the Science Olympiad team, Jos led their team to state victories, earning first place in Ornithology and top-three finishes in events like Rocks & Minerals and Trajectory. Their commitment to STEM also earned them prestigious awards, including the NASA Earth System Science Award and the NOAA Taking the Pulse of the Planet Award.
Beyond academics, Jos is a leader and advocate in their community. As a Civics Unplugged Fellow, Jos engages in civic innovation on an international scale, and as a volunteer geology collections manager at the Science Museum of Minnesota, they share their passion for earth science with others. Jos also contributes as a writing coach, SAT tutor and rowing crew member. With plans to study earth science in college, Jos’s curiosity, kindness and leadership will undoubtedly inspire and benefit every community they join.
