Nine Mound Westonka High School musicians were selected for the Second Annual Wright County Conference (WCC) Honor Band, which performed Jan. 12 in Hutchinson.

Band directors from the WCC were asked to nominate their best students. Student selections were made to ensure that all schools in the conference were represented, as well as to provide the correct number of students to play each instrument.

Representing Westonka were Leah Pinault, Zach Blume, Hannah Randklev, Grant Harrison, Kristen Holmberg, Timmy Levens, Rob Stokes, Elle Montgomery and Hanna Brustad.

Other participating conference schools included Annandale, Dassel-Cokato, Delano, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Hutchinson and Waconia.

“Our musicians had a great time,” director Gretchen Chilson said. “They represented Mound well and put on a great concert!”

The 34th Infantry Division "Red Bull" Band of the Minnesota Army National Guard supplied the guest conductor and sectional leaders for the full day event, which began at 9 a.m. Students rehearsed in large band and small section groups throughout the day, which culminated with a full concert in the evening for family and friends.

Included on the program were “Classical Rondo” by Antonio Capuzzi; “National Emblem March” by E.E. Bagley; “Battle Hymn of the Republic” by Peter J. Wilhousky; “Shenandoah” by Frank Ticheli and “Earthdance” by Michael Sweeney.
