Mound Westonka Hangs Tough, Downs Annandale in Late-Inning Drama

White Hawks currently sit in second place in the conference after weekend win over Annandale.

After a few days off to allow several players to go to DECA Internationals in Salt Lake City, the Mound Westonka White Hawk Softball team got back into action against a tough Annandale Cardinal squad.

The White Hawks (6-3, second in WCC Conference) came out strong, with four straight hits in the first inning to take an early 2-0 lead, but the Cardinals answered with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Brooklyn Pouti put a quick stop to the cardinal rally, by blasting a two-run home run over the left field fence to extend the lead to 4-1 after two innings.

This game was starting to look like an uncommon slug fest, as these teams usually battle in low scoring games.

Annandale continued to fight, scoring one run in the bottom of the fourth inning and two more in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the score at four. The White Hawks offense slowed down, as they left 12 runners on base and bases loaded on three occasions, but the team was determined to not go down without a fight.

Katie Rasmussen led off the top of the seventh inning with a single, and Evan Bailey bunted her over to second—which set the table for Allie Brady. Her only hit of the game could not have come at a better time, and she laced a line drive past the outstretched shortstop scoring Katie from second base which turned out to be the winning run.
