Westonka Swim and Dive Team Wraps up 2012 Season

Mound Westonka and Holy Family sent nine athletes to compete at the Minnesota Class A Swim and Dive Championships at the University of Minnesota November 15-17. MWHS senior Paige Beyer made the final cut in the 200-yard freestyle, finishing 14th with a time of 1:59.91.  

Holy Family senior Mackenzie Braden earned All-State honors with 3rd place finishes in both the 200 free (1:53.87) and the 500 free (5:05.12). Holy Family senior Kayla Lindeman just missed qualifying for All-State by two points with a 9th place total of 308.35. 

The MWHS 400 free relay team of senior captains Paige Beyer and Grace Polusny, sophomore Hannah Daly and eighth-grader Ryann Beyer finished 13th in the finals (3:44.44). Holy Family's 400 relay team of freshmen Shea Braden, Brie Lavelle and Clare Simon and senior Mackenzie Braden finished just ahead in 12th place (3:44.26).  

"It was great to be able to take both relays and individuals to state from both Holy Family and Mound Westonka," said head coach Gretchen Rouse. "It was really exciting to have so many athletes compete in prelims and to see a number of those races qualify for finals. We have a number of extremely talented seniors this year who made up our state team; Mackenzie Braden (HF), Kayla Lindeman (HF), Paige Beyer (MW), and Grace Polusny (MW). These girls have contributed so much to the team this year and are truly going to be missed. This was a great way to end our incredibly successful season. As coaches we could not be more proud of the team." 

The team looks forward to celebrating an amazing season at their annual banquet on December 1 at the Lafayette Club.
