Charges For Lakeville Hit and Run Driver Who Crashed Twice

Police say Jason Michael Fields, 40, of Farmington, was drunk when he slammed his pickup truck into a car, then drove off, only to roll his truck a few blocks away.

Jason Michael Fields, 40, of Farmington, was just south of Cedar Avenue and 202nd Street in Lakeville. He was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center immediately after the Jan. 9 incident.

Now, relatively healed from his injuries, the Dakota County Attorney's Office says Fields was drunk at the time of the crashes, and he's facing four felonies and three gross misdemeanors related to the incident.

Fields faces four felony counts of Criminal Vehicular Operation Resulting in Substantial Bodily Harm, two DUI charges, and one charge of Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident.

When  arrived at the scene, they learned of the first crash, which involved a rear-ended Toyota Echo. The driver of that car, Andrew Rundell, 34, also of Lakeville, wasn't injured.

Authorities say Fields plowed his GMC truck into the back of Rundell's Toyota at the intersection of Cedar and 202nd. The force of the crash pushed Rundell and his Toyota into the intersection. But rather than stopping, police say Fields fled the scene and drove southbound on Cedar at a high rate of speed.

Moments later, and just a couple blocks away, Fields lost control of his truck, flipping it a number of times, and was ejected from the vehicle.

Fields first court apperence is scheduled for next month.
