Going Rate: The Cost of Attending Prom in Lakeville
Patch does the research on just how much it costs to go to Prom these days.

If you're a parent of a high school student, you and your checkbook are probably well aware that Lakeville's Prom is Saturday, May 14.
The festive night at begins at 4 p.m. with Grand Marches at both Lakeville North and South high schools. Then, starting at 9 p.m., the dance will be held at the Croyne Royal Hotel in St. Paul.
But just how much does it cost to go to Prom nowdays? It's a lot different than it was in the 1970s, 80s and 90s. So Patch did a little research to help parents and Prom goers an idea of the typical costs to attend Prom in 2011:

Attire
The dress is the most important part of the process for girls. With so many styles and price points, it's the biggest decision to be made. Patch shopped some local retailers to get an idea of price.

As for the boys, they'll need a tuxedo.

For girls, shopping for Prom doesn't stop at the dress. They'll also need shoes, jewelry and other accessories.

- Dinner: That's up to the couple. tasting menus—$100+. Club sandwiches and Mountain Dew at —$40.
- Dance tickets.
