UPDATE: 16 Kids Suspended in Century Middle School Photo Scandal

School district was unwilling to disclose total number of students suspended until now.

As , district officials discovered that two girls took photos and video on their cell phones of two other female victims undressing in the locker room at the school. Those girls then sent the photos and video to two boys who agreed to pay them $5 and a can of soda for the images. The boys then forwarded the images to others, and authorities believe more than 40 may have ultimately received the inappropriate photos and video.

Backstrom said the images did not show nudity, but were nonetheless inappropriate and a violation of privacy laws.

The original story broke a day after the incident when the school's student community went to Twitter and Facebook to discuss the rumors of the incident claiming as many as 60 kids were suspended. , the district was unwilling to disclose the number of students suspended, but with charges now handed down in the case, the district revealed the number to be 16.

As for the charges: Two boys, one 13 and one 14-years-old, each face charges of Conspiracy to Commit Interference of Privacy and Criminal Defamation. A 14-year-old girl faces a charge of Interference With Privacy and Criminal Defamation, while another 14-year-old faces a single charge of Interference With Privacy.
