Wrong-Way Crash Kills Man, Injures Woman In Lakeville

An 85-year-old Lakeville man died Friday morning after his car was traveling the wrong way on Cedar Avenue.

LAKEVILLE, MN — An 85-year-old Lakeville man died Friday morning after his car was traveling the wrong way on Cedar Avenue and collided head-on with another vehicle, according to the Lakeville Police Department.

Officers responded at 11:42 a.m. to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Cedar Avenue (County Road 23), just south of 185th Street West. Responding officers immediately provided medical care to both drivers, who had significant injuries, police said.

According to preliminary information, the man was driving a 2011 Jaguar XJ southbound in the northbound lanes of Cedar Avenue when his car collided with a 2022 Tesla Model 3 driven by a 44-year-old Farmington woman. Both were taken by ambulance to Hennepin County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police said no evidence of impairment was found, and both drivers were the only occupants of their vehicles.

“It was later learned that the driver of the 2011 Jaguar XJ did not survive his injuries,” police said in a release. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity and official cause of death.

The woman’s condition was not immediately available.

A crash reconstruction specialist from the Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the crash. The Lakeville Fire Department, Farmington Fire Department, Farmington Police Department, and Allina EMS also assisted at the scene.
